Experts Exchange is pleased to announce that we’ve dropped all third-party advertisements from our logged-out website and mobile experiences! Premium services like HBO and Consumer Reports have set an ad-free precedent, and we’re simply following in their distinguished footsteps. Like HBO, we’ve been very fortunate enough to have a reliable subscriber base which has given EE the opportunity to stop cluttering our interfaces. And thanks to our loyal membership, we’ll continue to make important strides in further refining a high quality experience for our customers.
How an Ad-Free Experience Affects You
- Faster page loading times. As a result of ditching the ads, our logged out pages are 38% faster. That’s the difference between drinking a Big Gulp and a Super Big Gulp. So when anyone visits the site logged out, they’ll see the content quicker–which is especially important for new users.
- More content “above the fold.” It’s an old newspaper term that refers to the fold point on a broadsheet; to get your story above the fold means more eyeballs. Online, above the fold translates to the content users can see in their browser window without scrolling. No banner ad means more content is viewable in the browser.
- A better first impression. An ad-free experience leaves a far more favorable impression on folks who don’t subscribe to Experts Exchange, which we believe is important for a good brand experience regardless of the circumstances.
Additionally, the ad-free model is actually better for our business. The site conversion rate on Experts-Exchange.com is now 35% higher than it was this time last year.
We’ll still plan internal on-site promotions, but they’ll continue to be targeted around specific events (like TEDxSanLuisObispo), new feature awareness and our normal promotional campaigns (we promise to promote ourselves as tactfully as possible).
