MightyMegan Finds Community On The Pacific Crest Trail

If you’ve been a part of the Experts Exchange Community for the past few years, you’ve probably talked to–or at least heard tell of Megan Farrell (a.k.a- MightyMegan).  Megan was the lead information architect who worked on EE v.10 and, sadly, left Experts Exchange right before EE v.10 went live to embark on a new adventure: hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.

For those of you who don’t know, the Pacific Crest Trail extends 2,655 miles from Mexico to Canada; and Megan and her boyfriend Chad are currently just over 100 miles in to the hike.  Six days a week, Megan and Chad hike around 20 miles, carrying only the food and water that they need for that day, a tent, sleeping bag, clothing and a few other necessities. (Additional supplies are shipped to them for pick up at stops along the trail.)  Megan’s current backpack weighs in around 15 pounds.

Over the past few weeks, Megan and Chad have had a number of new experiences, including encounters with four different rattle snakes.  But as Megan talks about on her Experts Exchange blog (where she’ll be documenting her journey), one of the things she’s been most impressed with along the trail are the trail angels.  Much like Experts Exchange Experts, the trail angels help other hikers when they have a problem that needs to be solved.  Only, instead of answering tough technology questions, the trail angels bring food and water to the hikers at just the right time.

We’ll be posting about Megan’s adventures on the Pacific Crest Trail here on the Experts Exchange Company Blog from time to time.  You can follow all of Megan’s adventures on her MightyMegan blog.  Be sure to leave a comment at the bottom of this post or over on Megan’s blog to encourage Megan and Chad along their journey.  With over 2,500 miles to go, they’re gonna need all the help they can get; but if anyone can do it, we know MightyMegan can!
