Friday Four: Windows and White House Viral VidNovember 30, 2012 11:56 am ·
Turkey Day has come and gone, now we’re in the holiday home stretch. That is, unless you believe the world is going to end in three weeks. Even though sometimes it may seem like the world is on the verge of apocalypse, I think we’ll make it to 2013. But just in case we make it past the Mayan judgment day, here’s some tech news to keep your eye on.
Rumor has it that Windows will be releasing a pared-down version of their OS that will be free or cheap. The end goal of this project is to create yearly updates, and to offer it at a price low enough to guarantee that Windows users will want to update. The annual updates seem to aim to be competitive with Apple’s OS X release schedule. Anonymous sources claim that Microsoft wants developers to design apps for Blue, not Windows 8 only. Because telling computer nerds what to do and how to do it ALWAYS works.
The Windows Surface 8 Pro tablet is slated for a January 2013 release, and it will cost you a whopping $899 for 64 GB. It doesn’t even include all the accessories that Microsoft is trying to use as selling points for the tablet; the Touch Cover/Type Cover jacks up the price over a grand. In other disappointing news about the Pro, the battery life might only be half that of the RT.
Christmas is here whether you like it or not. At least it’s finally December tomorrow. Even if you’re a Grinch about the holiday, this video of the First Dog tromping around the White House inspecting this year’s decorations just might make your heart grow a few sizes. What is the Internet for without videos to make you feel warm and fuzzy. Still not convinced? Grumpy about the outcome of the election? I have three final words for you: Fluffiest paws ever!
The video is one of a series that the White House has put together to promote the White House’s holiday plans for celebrating “troops, veterans, and military families.” Let the political vitriol on YouTube commence!
