Experts Exchange Volunteers with ECOSLO

Earlier this month, a group of Experts Exchange employees headed just south of our headquarters to Lake Lopez to volunteer with local non-profit, ECOSLO, in a cleanup day.

ECOSLO is a local organization dedicated to promoting resilient ecosystems and healthy lifestyles in San Luis Obispo County. In addition to hosting cleanups throughout the county, they also lead a steward program to provide guided hikes and educational opportunities to learn more about our local open spaces. Each year they help remove tens of thousands of pounds of trash from lakes, beaches, trails, and more.

Geared with buckets, trash bags, and gloves, the Experts Exchange team split off to ‘comb the lakebed’ in search of debris. Due to the drought, the lakebed has exposed trash that was previously thought to be lost forever.

After just a few hours, we collected 1,009 POUNDS of trash… that’s 1/2 A TON! Unique finds included:

  • 3 anchors
  • 1 vintage Ford hubcap
  • 100s of old-school pull tab beer cans
  • 2 folding chairs
  • 1 skateboard
  • 1 car bench seat
