As any web developer knows, being able to collaborate with other programmers on projects is essential to career growth. Unfortunately, when you work for a small business, finding other web developers to talk to isn’t always an option.

When baub_eis encountered a problem with a SQL statement after his web host migrated to a new server, he decided to ask the experts in the SQL Server topic area on Experts Exchange for their advice:

“I have a site that my web host migrated to a new server and now one of my classic asp dynamic pages isn’t loading correctly…(when I click on a certain URL) I get ‘An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator. If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error.’”

While baub_eis suspected his problem had something to do with a recordset, he wasn’t sure; so he posted his SQL code and asked the experts to take a look.

A mere twenty minutes after he asked his question, baub_eis received a reply from The_Big_Daddy that solved his problem.

“Change your if statement,” The_Big_Daddy suggested and posted example code to help baub_eis out. “This should print out the SQL being used…and give you a good start on troubleshooting.”

Indeed, The_Big_Daddy’s code did help baub_eis fix his problem, and baub_eis offered up this feedback: “As being a web developer that is a one man show, I don’t always have other folks to ask questions and this forum has saved me I don’t know how many times.  My appreciation goes out to all of you!”
